Middlesbrough’s Lukas Jutkiewicz describes ‘bittersweet’ feelings after FA Cup defeat to Sunderland
Lukas Jutkiewicz celebrates his first Middlesbrough goal in front of fans.
BittersweeT – that was the verdict of Middlesbrough’s Lukas Jutkiewicz after he grabbed his first goal for the club but watched on as his side were cruelly beaten in extra time.
His strike had put Boro back in with a chance of progressing through to the fifth round of the FA Cup and a glamorous tie with Arsenal, but that dream was killed as Jutkiewicz watched on from the bench after being subbed.
“It’s obviously nice to get your first goal and it’s important to get up and running but I’m obviously disappointed with the end result,” said the former Coventry City man who netted in his fourth start for Boro.
“It’s bittersweet. Probably more bitter than sweet.”
His calm finish with his weaker foot in the 57th minute looked to have rocked Sunderland and got the Riverside roaring.
But Boro fell short as the game opened up as players tired, with Sunderland taking their chance on the counter attack.
