Young Boro stars give Tony Mowbray a poser as Middlesbrough win 1-0 at Blackburn

YOUNG TALENT: Bryn Morris
YOUNG TALENT: Bryn Morris

HARTLEPOOL footballers Ryan Brobbel and Bryn Morris were both part of the Middlesbrough side who finished their Bayclays U21 Premier League programme with a 1-0 win over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.

The match was decided just before the hour mark when a Rovers mistake at the back was seized upon by Bradley Fewster to score the only goal of the game.

Brobbel had a crack at goal in the first half, only to see his shot claimed by Blackburn goalkeeper Christopher Dilo low down.

Boro were the better side in the first half but could not translate their good football into goals.

Dilo thwarted Boro with some good saves but when he failed to deal with a defensive mix-up, Fewster was on hand to tap the ball into an empty net.

Two minutes later, Christian Burgess almost made it two but headed Cameron Park’s corner just wide.

Blackburn did press for an equaliser but they were denied by excellent keeping by Jayson Leutwiler while they did not aid their own cause by having Hugo Fernandez sent off.

It will be interesting to see if Boro boss Tony Mowbray, now that all play-off hopes are gone, will blood any of the club’s young talent in the remaining npower Championship games.
