SIEM de Jong is close to a Premier League return for Newcastle United – after playing in a behind-closed-doors friendly.
De Jong played 45 minutes of a 3-1 win over Carlisle United at the club’s training ground.
The 25-year-old was on target along with Lubomir Satka and Jonathyn Quinn.
After the match, de Jong said he was “almost there” on Twitter.
The forward tweeted: “Played 45 minutes today in a friendly game! #almostthere.”
De Jong – who suffered a serious thigh injury in early September – could be involved in Saturday’s game against Hull City at the KC Stadium.
Gabriel Obertan, Mehdi Abeid, Davide Santon and Jonas Gutierrez also played in the fixture.
