ALAN Pardew will have no qualms about playing Jose Enrique against Arsenal should he still be a Newcastle United player on Saturday.
The unsettled defender’s days at St James’s Park are seemingly numbered.
Enrique is expected to leave St James’s Park before the end of the month, with Liverpool his likely destination.
And Pardew reportedly watched PSV Eindhoven’s Erik Pieter’s yesterday, with the 22-year-old a possible replacement for Enrique.
However, there has not been a firm bid, as yet, for 25-year-old Enrique.
And should there be no developments this week, Enrique – who played in Saturday’s abandoned game against Fiorentina – will start against Arsene Wenger’s side, who have also been linked with a move for the Spaniard.
“I spoke to Jose and told him that he needed to play against Fiorentina, because he needs to be right for the Arsenal game,” Pardew told the Gazette.
“I told him he doesn’t want to be in the stands for the first game.
“He loves playing the game. He played excellently against Fiorentina, and put himself at risk. That’s what you want.”
