ARSENAL’S bid to sign Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye dominates the transfer headlines today.
The move prompted anger from Magpies boss Alan Pardew, who claimed it unsettled the player and his team ahead of last night’s game at Manchester City.
All the national newspapers follow up the story, with the Daily Telegraph saying Newcastle will try to get as much as £20m for Cabaye, 27, after rejecting a “derisory” bid of around £12m from Arsenal, who have also made a bid for Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba, 20.
Meanwhile, the Independent claims the Gunners face competition to sign France international Cabaye as Paris St-Germain enter the race to sign the player with a £15m bid.
Also on the Arsenal theme, the Daily Mirror says Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is interested in Manchester City defender Micah Richards, 25, as the Gunners look to solve their injury crisis – and has still not given up on Liverpool forward Luis Suarez, 26.
But the Evening Standard run a story saying Arsenal are considering a £35m double bid for Swansea forward Michu, 27, and defender Ashley Williams, 28.
Elsewhere, Liverpool’s long saga with Aly Cissokho is nearing an end.
The Daily Mirror reports that the left-back, a target of Sunderland also, is set to become Liverpool’s fifth summer signing on a season-long loan from Valencia.
