NEWCASTLE United duo Cheik Tiote and Siem de Jong have both been ruled out of Sunday’s Premier League opener against Manchester City.
The pair have been struggling with hamstring and calf injuries respectively.
Magpies boss Alan Pardew confirmed today at his pre-match Press conference that neither player would be fit in time for the game.
De Jong’s debut could come against Aston Villa at Villa Park on August 23.
“Siem should be back against Villa, it’s another week for Cheik, although nothing too serious,” said Pardew.
“Papiss (Demba Cisse) is working with us again, although (Davide) Santon is a little more long term.
“We’re not that far away from a full strength squad.
“We’ll cope without Tiote and De Jong because we’ve known for a few days they would not be playing.
“They’ll be a miss, but we’ll be able to cope and it’s nice to say that this season.”
