Duo still out for Newcastle – but defender set to return against Stoke

OUT ... Siem de Jong.

SIEM de Jong and Rolando Aarons will not make their long-awaited comebacks for Newcastle United against Stoke City on Sunday, head coach John Carver has confirmed.

However, defender Paul Dummett will return to contention for Sunday’s Premier League game at St James’s Park after missing last week’s win at Hull City.

Aarons is not yet back in full training, and has been out since November with a hamstring injury.

De Jong, meanwhile, is battling back to full fitness after recovering from a serious thigh injury and has played for the club’s Under-21 side, but still faces a wait to get back in the first-team.

Carver said: “This weekend, and Wednesday at Crystal Palace, is probably too early for Siem de Jong to be involved.”
