NEWCASTLE United were today celebrating reaching the lucrative Europa League group stage after seeing off Greek side Atromitos.

Haris Vuckic’s first senior Newcastle goal was enough to send the Magpies through.

The 20-year-old Slovenia international struck 21 minutes into the second leg of the play-off clash with Atromitos to seal a 2-1 aggregate victory.

But that is just about where the good news ended for Toon boss Alan Pardew.

Newcastle suffered injuries to James Perch and Ryan Taylor in last night’s second leg.

The Magpies were also drawn away to Manchester United in the third round of the Capital One Cup.

And to cap off the bad news, Newcastle missed out on former hero Andy Carroll, who has joined West Ham on a season-long loan.

Pardew said: “For us, Andy Carroll was a political move that perhaps wasn’t going to fall our way. Liverpool gave us £35million for him, so...

“I wish him all the best at West Ham.”
