Georginio Wijnaldum will undergo a medical on Tyneside this afternoon after Newcastle United had a £14.5million bid for the player accepted by PSV Eindhoven.
The Magpies will the Dutch midfielder their first signing of the summer after the Eredivisie club confirmed a deal is close.
Wijnaldum has left the club’s pre-season training camp in France and will fly into Newcastle today to complete the transfer.
The Gazette understands the highly-rated player is keen on a move to Newcastle where he will link up with Dutch counterparts Tim Krul, Daryl Janmaat, Siem de Jong and Vurnon Anita.
The length of contract is still to be confirmed, but there are not thought to be any issues over Wijnaldum’s personal terms.
PSV tweeted: “Georginio Wijnaldum has left the players’ hotel in France.
“PSV (are) nearing an agreement with Newcastle United and have given Wijnaldum permission to complete his personal negotiations and undergo an inspection
Newcastle are also closing in on Serbian striker Aleksander Mitrovic with the Anderlecht star mulling over a £12million move to Tyneside.
