GUUS Hiddink says Alan Pardew has earned his respect – for building an entertaining Newcastle United side.
Pardew’s team take on Hiddink’s Anzhi Makhachkala in a Europa League Round of 16 tie at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium tonight.
While Newcastle remain in relegation trouble near the foot of the Premier League, Hiddink has been impressed by the club’s recent upturn in fortunes – and last season’s fifth-placed finish.
United are also hoping of progressing further in Europe.
“(From) what I saw in the last games, I respect the way they are playing,” said Hiddink.
“It’s not a waiting team – it’s a team full of initiative – and that’s a team people like to see.
“That’s why we play football – for people to enjoy the team.”
