JONAS Gutierrez paid tribute to match-winner Shola Ameobi – and insisted Newcastle United fear no one in the Europa League.
Ameobi’s second-half penalty gave the Magpies a deserved 1-0 win over Metalist Kharkiv last night to set up a last 16 clash against Anzhi Makhachkala.
Gutierrez looked on from the bench as he was one of a handful of players rested by Alan Pardew with Sunday’s Premier League game against Southampton in mind.
But he insisted he had no problems watching Ameobi’s 64th-minute penalty, and was always confident his team-mate would score.
“We know the quality of Shola,” said Gutierrez. “He always takes the penalties and when he takes the ball, I am really confident he is going to score.
“He has really good quality in his feet and when he has to take a penalty, he does it with a lot of confidence.”
