LIVERPOOL are ready to finally firm up their interest in Jose Enrique.
The unsettled Newcastle United defender has been on the club’s transfer window for several months.
Up to now, there’s been no bid for Enrique, who has refused to enter talks about a new contract at St James’s Park despite his present deal expiring in 12 months time.
However, Kenny Dalglish’s side have conceded 12 goals in four pre-season games.
And SportMail understands Liverpool are ready to make a move, though they are braced for some tough negotiating, with Newcastle reportedly looking for upwards of £10million for the Spaniard.
United manager Alan Pardew is keen for Enrique’s future to be decided sooner rather than later, as he will have to sign a replacement before the transfer window ends.
Among the club’s potential targets are Aston Villa’s Stephen Warnock, Manchester City’s Wayne Bridge and West Bromwich Albion’s Nicky Shorey.
Enrique, meanwhile, is in the Newcastle squad for tomorrow’s friendly at Leeds United (2pm kick-off).
