NEWCASTLE United’s only summer signing Loic Remy could be fit for Fulham’s visit to St James’s Park.
The on-loan striker missed last night’s 4-0 defeat to Man City with a calf problem and it was feared he wouldn’t be fit until United’s visit to Villa Park on September 14.
But Pardew – who is desperate for the club to sign another striker before the transfer window closes – is hopeful he could be involved against Fulham on August 31.
“We’re still short,” Pardew said.
“Until Remy is fit, or we get another striker, it will be a problem for us.”
United’s under-fire director of football, Joe Kinnear, is working to bring another player to St James’s Park.
Pardew, however, admitted breakthrough is not imminent.
“There is nothing for me to immediately add,” said Pardew. “But it is a situation we need to look at very closely.
“We have Loic coming back, and he’s two weeks away. Maybe he might make the Fulham game. The West Ham match is a bridge too far.”
