CHELSEA are believed to be ready to hijack Bayern Munich’s move for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney – while Paolo Di Canio admits he offered to quit Sunderland.

Reports today claim that wantaway Rooney will now have a couple of choices after telling the Red Devils he wants to leave.

The Daily Mirror report today that Roman Abramovic is prepared to offer £30m to bring the striker to Chelsea ahead of Bayern.

Manchester United, unsurprisingly, are leading the headlines, with the Manchester Evening News reporting Javier Hernandez could play a key role in any potential deal to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to Manchester United.

On the management front, David Moyes’ first challenge as Manchester United boss will be to persuade Wayne Rooney to stay at the club, after the striker asked to leave two weeks ago, according to the Independent. United have turned down an approach.

And Phil Neville will be in the frame to replace Manchester United-bound David Moyes at Everton, if he does not follow him to Old Trafford, report The Sun.

It’s quiet on the Newcastle front, but Paolo Di Canio says Sunderland turned down his resignation during the controversy over his political views in the Daily Mirror.
