Manchester United fail in bid for Everton’s Baines while Liverpool probe Suarez claims

MANCHESTER United’s failed bid for Everton’s Leighton Baines topped today’s transfer headlines.

Everton insist the defender is not for sale at any price after former Toffees manager David Moyes made a move, reported to be between £10m and £12m.

In deals that did go through, Newcastle defender Danny Simpson became relegated QPR’s first signing of the summer on a free transfer.

And Swansea City have signed Jordi Amat from Espanyol on a four-year deal for £2.5m.

The central defender, 21, impressed while on loan at Rayo Vallecano during the 2012-13 season,

Elsewhere, Luis Suarez is making the headlines again today.

The Daily Telegraph report Liverpool will seek urgent talks with striker Suarez, 26, to assess whether he is in breach of contract following claims from Spain he has agreed personal terms with Real Madrid.
