MANCHESTER United boss David Moyes is desperate for some positive news in the transfer market.

The new Old Trafford manager has yet to make a major signing since taking over from Sir Alex Ferguson.

And the Times reports that United are planning a £25m bid to sign Luka Modric, 27, from Real Madrid after coming to the reluctant realisation that they are unlikely to secure any of their primary transfer targets.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail claims Moyes is returning to England to prepare for showdown talks with striker Wayne Rooney.

Elsewhere, the Daily Mirror reports that Arsene Wenger is determined not to raise Arsenal’s £40m bid for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez – even if it means the transfer going to the wire.
