MASSADIO Haidara has suffered a setback on his return from injury - but Davide Santon is now available for selection.
The Newcastle United left-back had been close to a comeback from the problem which sidelined him in pre-season.
But Haidara’s return has been put back after a setback on the training field.
“Haidara’s had a little bit of a setback,” Newcastle manager Alan Pardew told SportMail.
The 20-year-old impressed after his January move from Nancy.
However, five games into his United career he suffered knee ligament damage after being caught with a reckless challenge from Wigan Athletic’s Callum McMananman in the March metting between the two sides at the DW Stadium.
Haidara make a quicker-than-expected recovery, but he ended the season in the treatment room.
And his injury is understood to be related to that problem which saw him miss the end of the campaign.
Meanwhile, Santon, the club’s first-choice left-back, missed Newcastle’s season-opener against Manchester City with a hip problem.
But the 22-year-old is available for selection against West Ham United this afternoon.
“Santon’s fit - he’ll be involved, for sure,” said Pardew.
Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa deputised for Santon in the 4-0 defeat at the Etihad Stadium on Monday night.
Yanga-Mbiwa will play at centre-half against West Ham with Steven Taylor serving the first game of his three-match suspension for his dismissal against City.
