Newcastle and England legend Paul Gascoigne backs Alan Pardew to follow in Sir Bobby Robson’s footsteps

PAUL Gascoigne is desperate for Alan Pardew to follow in the footsteps of his mentor Sir Bobby Robson – and guide Newcastle United in the Champions League.

Gascoigne was at the Sports Direct Arena on Sunday to for the unveiling of a statue of the late Sir Bobby.

And Gascoigne has paid tribute to the job Pardew has done at Newcastle.

“The team’s done really well, and Alan Pardew deserves massive credit – look what he’s achieved,” Gascoigne said.

“If you like the manager, you’ll perform for him. There’s no use playing for a team for a team if you don’t like the manager.

“It just shows you the players like Alan Pardew. He’s done an amazing job.”
