JOHN Carver is confident his Newcastle United team will be well backed at St James’s Park on Sunday – despite the planned boycott.
Many fans are planning to stay away from the Tottenham Hotspur game in protest at the club’s direction under owner Mike Ashley.
A campaign was launched on social media with the hashtag #boycottspurs in the wake of the Wear-Tyne derby defeat to Sunderland earlier this month.
But head coach Carver feels his out-of-form side won’t be short of support on home turf.
“The ones who come will be right behind the team,” said Carver.
“They (boycotting fans) are entitled to do what they want to do.
“If they don’t want to see the game, that’s their perogative, but the vast majority will be there.”
Newcastle – who have lost their last five games – are 13th in the Premier League table with six matches left to play.
