FORMER Newcastle United flop Daniel Cordone made an unlikely return to football at the weekend – by impersonating Argentina legend Claudio Caniggia.
Caniggia – who won 50 caps for his country – was billed as one of the star attractions in a game between Argentina and Brazil legends.
However, spectators quickly realised that the former Rangers striker was not there at all, despite being included in the team list.
In fact, Cordone was playing instead, complete with a band in his hair in a bid to look like Caniggia.
Organisers insisted Cordone was Caniggia, and the event’s promoter, Andre de Paula, said: “This is the Caniggia, the real Caniggia. There is no other Caniggia.”
After the game, the false Caniggia ran straight to the dressing room and did not speak to the media.
Cordone scored just three times in his one season at Newcastle, between 2000 and 2001.
