NEWCASTLE United are at the forefront of the transfer headlines today – with claims they are set to sign an England defender.

The Magpies are reportedly readying a bid for Micah Richards when the transfer window reopens in January.

The Sun claims Alan Pardew is considering a move for Manchester City’s 25-year-old full-back.

Newcastle have also been linked with a move for Derby teenager Will Hughes in the past, but reports today suggest Manchester United are in pole position to sign him.

According to the Independent, manager David Moyes plans to strengthen his midfield with a January move for the England Under-21 international.

Hughes, still just 18, has made nearly 50 appearances for Derby
