REMIE Streete’s loan at Port Vale is set to be extended.
The Newcastle United defender has spent the last four weeks at the League One club.
And the two clubs have been involved in discussions this week about an extension to the deal, which was for an initial month.
Streete impressed last weekend on his full debut for Vale.
Rob Page, the club’s interim manager, is keen to keep the 20-year-old at Vale Park, and the Gazette understands that Streete’s loan is likely to be extended by another month.
However, it is not yet clear whether Streete will be allowed to play in this Saturday’s FA Cup tie against MK Dons.
Page feels Streete, from South Shields, has a “bright future” in the game.
Speaking after Streete came off the bench against Leyton Orient late last month, Page told The Sentinel: “The physical side of it pleased me.
“He didn’t shy away from that, as well as being more than comfortable on the ball.
“I think he’s going to have a bright future.”
Asked about an extension to the loan and the FA Cup tie, Page said: “That’s something we’re dealing with at the moment.
“But we are pretty confident we will get things sorted for Saturday.”
