SHOLA Ameobi’s international future has been resolved – but his club career remains at a crossroads.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has revealed that the Newcastle United striker will again be available for selection by the country of his birth.
Ameobi made his international debut in November last year – but the 31-year-old was controversially omitted from Nigeria’s squad for this year’s African Cup of Nations.
However, the NFF has issued a media release stating that a clause has been removed from Ameobi’s United contract to allow him to play for his country.
A statement read: “Ameobi said the clause has been removed, and he will be ready to play for the Super Eagles anytime he is called upon.”
Coach Stephen Keshi said: “The national team can do with his experience.”
Ameobi has a year left on his Newcastle deal, but he could reluctantly leave this summer in search of more regular first-team football.
