LAZY Sunday blasted out of the PA system before kick off.
It turned out to be anything but that at St James’s Park.
Harry Redknapp joked after yesterday’s pulsating 2-2 draw that at least TV viewers wouldn’t have fallen asleep on their sofas.
But those watching at home wouldn’t have felt the full force of the stadium as it roared Newcastle United on in the dying minutes after Shola Ameobi levelled with one of the sweetest strikes you’ll see this season.
It was deafening and Tottenham Hotspur were rocking.
And the travelling fans high up in the Leazes end would have been grateful for the final whistle from referee Lee Probert – if they heard it, that is – as the Tyneside skies darkened above them.
They’d chanted about a library-like atmosphere early in the game as their team set the pace.
Maybe they felt Newcastle, the northern upstarts in fourth, were about to be put in their place eight games into the Premier League season by Redknapp’s expensively assembled side.
