NEWCASTLE United will take their time before appointing a new reserve-team manager - after the “unfortunate” loss of Willie Donachie. Donachie resigned from the post last week over an allegation he struck defender Remie Streete after a game against Sunderland.

However, the club won’t replace him until the summer, according to first-team manager Alan Pardew.

“It was an unfortunate situation,” said Pardew. “We’ve lost Willie, who is a fantastic coach. That’s a blow to us.

“We’ve got people here to carry the flag until the end of the season - Joe Joyce, Dave Watson, Peter Beardsley, Steve Stone and John Carver.

“We’ve got people to cover Willie’s loss.”
