NEWCASTLE United are losing their battle to persuade Jose Enrique to sign a new long-term deal.
The club offered Enrique a lucrative new contract last month and were hopeful of a positive response from the defender.
But Enrique and his representatives haven’t given manager Alan Pardew any encouragement over the past fortnight.
And as previously feared, Enrique’s mind looks to be made up on a move away from St James’s Park, whether it be this summer or next, when he can leave on a free transfer.
While Pardew hasn’t yet given up on keeping the 25-year-old, the odds are looking increasingly slim.
“At the moment it looks like he doesn’t want to deal with us,” conceded Pardew.
“We’ve been asked to make him an offer, but there’s been no progress since then. I still hope we can do something, but at the moment, we’re still waiting for Jose.”
