ALAN Smith is braced for hostile welcome back to his old stomping ground Elland Road.
But the midfielder – who is set to see out the final year of his St James’s Park contract – is ready to block that out and give his all for Newcastle United.
Smith left Leeds United in the wake of the club’s relegation in 2004 and Sunday’s friendly will be his first playing return to his boyhood club.
The resentment stems from his decision to join their bitter rivals Manchester United.
However, Smith was still linked with a return to Leeds this summer, though SportMail understands that the former England international’s not been involved in any discussions with the Championship club.
“I don’t know what the reception will be – we played them at St James’s Park two seasons ago and I got a bad one then, so I’m expecting the same at Elland Road,” Smith told SportMail.
