TIM Krul made his name in the Carling Cup as an up-and-coming goalkeeper – and he now wants Newcastle United to make their mark in the competition.
Krul – whose early appearances for the club came in cup competitions – is hoping to be between the posts against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park tonight.
The 23-year-old, pictured right, was given an opportunity in the Carling Cup during Newcastle’s season in the Championship.
Krul has since gone on to establish himself as number one between the posts – and as a senior international with Holland – but he is still keen to play his part in the competition.
Manager Alan Pardew fielded Rob Elliot between the posts against Nottingham Forest in the previous round.
And Pardew – who this week let Steve Harper join Brighton and Hove Albion on loan – must decide between the pair for the fourth-round tie.
“Last year, it was really important for me to play the cup games,” Krul told Sportmail. “It’s been really important for me for the past three years,
“It gave me the confidence. They were really important.”
