ALAN Pardew has called on Newcastle United fans to be patient as the club closes in on its transfer targets.
Pardew had been hopeful of a breakthrough last week, but Lille rejected an improved £5m bid for defender Mathieu Debuchy.
Up to now, United’s only signings have been the lower-profile acquisitions of Romain Amalfitano, Curtis Good and Gael Bigirimana.
Pardew’s also keen to add depth and experience to his squad ahead of a potentially-gruelling campaign.
However, he has faith in the club’s younger players, and their potential was evident in last night’s comfortable 5-1 win over Hartlepool United.
“My message would just to be patient,” Pardew said.
“We’ve got a great side, and a great underbelly to the team.
“If we add one or two, or even three, we’ll have a great squad.”
