ALAN Pardew’s insisted Jonas Gutierrez chose to leave Newcastle United on loan – after the winger claimed he’d been forced out of the club.

Gutierrez – who has 18 months left on his St James’s Park contract – this week joined Norwich City until the end of the season.

And the 30-year-old claimed he was told to “find another club” by Newcastle manager Pardew.

“The manager told me in December I was not going to play any more and told me to find myself another club,” said Gutierrez, who has made just two appearances for Newcastle this season.

“I don’t know why it happened, and I still don’t understand what I did wrong.”

However, speaking at his tomorrow’s game against West Ham United at Upton Park, Pardew said the Argentina international was keen for a loan as he wasn’t getting first-team football ahead of the summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

“He’s not left – he’s on loan,” said Pardew. “He wasn’t playing first-team football, and he wanted to play.

“I wish him well at Norwich. Chris (Hughton) knows him very well.”

“He’s been a great player for us, but he wasn’t playing. The World Cup isn’t far away. There’s an opportunity for him to play (at Norwich).”
