NEWCASTLE United are closing in on a deal for Olympique Lyonnais striker Bafetimbi Gomis.
Alan Pardew’s hoping the club will sign a striker before the end of the week.
And talks are ongoing with Lyon over a move for Gomis.
The French club’s owner, Jean-Michel Aulas, has been quoted in France on Newcastle and Aston Villa’s interest in the 27-year-old, who is reportedly keen on a move to St James’s Park.
Gomis, then a Saint-Etienne player, interested United during Kevin Keegan’s second spell as manager.
Pardew and his players are in Portugal for the club’s pre-season tour.
