Newcastle United will have to shell out £18million to bring Andy Carroll back to St James's Park, according to reports today.

Carroll is in the midst of another injury-hit campaign at West Ham, yet that hasn't halted speculation over a return to Tyneside for the 26-year-old.

One report today has indicated that the Hammers have placed a £18m price tag on Carroll, although manager Slaven Bilic says the England international is not for sale.

Bilic said: "We need players, we need him fit, we need him back. He fits into my plans. I said this from the start and that didn’t change."

Newcastle are in the market for attacking recruits in the January window though, with a striker and a winger thought to be on the club's hit-list.

The Magpies are long-term admirers of QPR striker Charlie Austin, while they have also been offered the services of Tottenham wideman Andros Townsend.

Until fresh arrivals, Siem de Jong looks set to be given an extended run in the starting XI in the 'number 10' role.

Newcastle boss Steve McClaren said today: "We know he can score and get assists, and we know he’s smart and clever."
