SHOLA Ameobi says Newcastle United can’t rely on Loic Remy’s goals alone between now and the end of the season.
Remy will return to the starting XI for Sunday’s home Premier League game against Aston Villa after serving a three-game ban, with Newcastle having failed to score in the absence of their 11-goal top-scorer.
With midfielder Yohan Cabaye – who netted seven times – having left last month, Alan Pardew’s side look short of firepower.
And long-serving Ameobi – whose last Premier League goal came in December 2012 – believes the rest of the team must “take responsibility” and help out Remy.
“People have to step up,” Ameobi said.
“When we’ve lost players, other people have stepped up.
“It’s important that you try to take on the responsibility.
“I think when you have a team like that, you can move forward. We’ve lost a class act. We know that.
“I’m sure someone will step up to the plate. That’s what happens in football.”
