NEWCASTLE United are ready to follow the signing of Mathieu Debuchy with another move into the French market.

It is understood a high-ranking delegation from the club, which yesterday completed the £5.5m capture of Debuchy from Lille, is in France working on several deals.

Olympique Marseille’s £10m-rated striker Loic Remy is one of Newcastle’s targets.

But the club faces competition for Remy’s signature in this month’s transfer window.

And Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp is expected to watch Remy at the Stade Velodrome tomorrow when OM take on Guingamp.

However, Marseille are yet to receive a bid for the 26-year-old, an international team-mate of France right-back Debuchy and midfielder Yohan Cabaye.

United officials are also working at least one more deal over the weekend. Chief scout Graham Carr – who masterminded the captures of Debuchy and Cabaye – compiled a list of potential targets and put them to manager Alan Pardew and the board’s hierarchy ahead of the window.

Pardew, keen to strengthen his injury-hit squad, had talks with managing director Derek Llambias and club secretary on Thursday.

And it seems Newcastle, battling the threat of relegation from the Premier League, are ready to move on several fronts after losing striker Demba Ba to Chelsea yesterday.

Pardew is keen to see a centre-half and striker arrive before the end of the month.

The identity of the club’s immediate targets is not clear, though United have an interest in versatile Toulouse midfielder Moussa Sissoko. Carr has also been seen at a number of St Etienne games this season.
