ALAN Pardew put his faith in Jonas Gutierrez when he handed him a contract extension - and Newcastle United are already reaping the rewards.

Gutierrez signed a new deal last month keeping him at St James’s Park until 2015.

The 28-year-old won over Pardew with his performances late last season.

And Gutierrez has carried his form into the new campaign.

He scored a stunning goal in the 2-1 win at Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier this month.

And the winger turned provider in Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur at St James’s Park with a superb run and cross for Demba Ba’s goal.

Gutierrez had been linked with a move away from the club before he agreed a new deal, and Pardew believes he and the club are benefitting from the faith they have put in the Argentina international.

“Jonas is in some of the best form I’ve seen from him,” Pardew told SportMail.

“Sometimes when players sign contracts, they just come off the pedal a little bit. Jonas has gone the other way.

“I didn’t sign him, so maybe he’s got a little bit of belief that the manager here loves him and wants him to play well. That might just be arming him, and he’s playing so well at the minute.”
