FABRICIO Coloccini has already put his mark on Newcastle United after only a couple of months as captain, according to manager Alan Pardew.
Coloccini, the new North East Football Writers’ player of the year, was handed the captain’s armband this summer after Kevin Nolan left for West Ham United.
While the quietly-spoken defender isn’t as vocal on the pitch as straight-talking Nolan, he’s no less influential.
Coloccini this week revealed he was enjoying the brand of football being played by Newcastle more than in previous seasons.
And Pardew – who is keen for the 29-year-old to sign an extended contract – has credited Coloccini with having a significant influence on the team’s “personality”.
“I said he’d bring different attributes,” Pardew told SportMail.
“One thing he does bring is consistency in performance, and consistency in what he says, something which we’ve not always had here.
“He knows how to win a football game, and what we need to win a football game.
“He wants to win a certain way, and the last two games will have been pleasing for him.”
