ENGLAND coach Roy Hodgson saw Newcastle United’s Rolando Aarons made a goalscoring debut for the Under-20s.

Aarons – who scored his first club goal in last weekend’s 3-3 home draw against Crystal Palace – scored England’s first goal in a 6-0 rout of Romania at Telford last night.

The 18-year-old was called up after impressing for United in the first few weeks of the campaign.

Aarons’s Newcastle team-mates Alan Armstrong and Freddie Woodman also played for England’s Under-18s, who beat Holland 3-1 at Bury.

United’s summer signing Jamaal Lascelles, loaned back to Nottingham Forest for the season, was an unused substitute for England’s Under-21s, who beat Lithuania 1-0 away.

Meanwhile, England have been dealt a big blow ahead of their crunch qualifier against Switzerland after Daniel Sturridge was ruled out with a thigh injury.

The Liverpool striker was one of the few players to impress in England’s otherwise poor 1-0 win over Norway on Wednesday night.

But Sturridge will not be available for Monday’s Euro 2016 qualifier against the Swiss because of a thigh injury he suffered in training.

An FA Spokesman said: “Daniel Sturridge picked up an injury on his thigh in training.

“He has had a scan and will now return to Liverpool for treatment.

“He will play no part in the forthcoming Switzerland match.”

The FA also confirmed no replacement would be called up for Sturridge, who started the Norway game up front alongside captain Wayne Rooney.

England will travel to Switzerland tomorrow morning with just 19 players.
