Papiss Cisse's refusing to give up on his Newcastle United career.

The striker has scored 42 goals for the club since arriving in January 2012.

Cisse, however, has found himself on the fringes of Steve McClaren's starting XI this season after the signing of Aleksandar Mitrovic.

But the 30-year-old still feels he has a lot to offer the club, which takes on Leicester City at St James's Park on Saturday.

"I know myself and what I can bring," said the Senegal international.

"If I play, I will get chances to score and win games for Newcastle.

"I haven't had that chance of late, so I need to keep going. When I go into work, I work hard.

"I know I must keep being busy and working. It feels like you've worked for nothing after a week of training when you don't play.

"In my head I feel like I've done nothing, but I must keep going."

Asked if getting used to life on the bench had been difficult, Cisse added: "That's the life of a footballer sometimes.

"It's hard for me, but I always say I will keep going, and keep my smile all the time.

"I know who I am and what I can bring to the team. I just wait."

Cisse came off the bench in Newcastle's last game, the 1-0 win over Bournemouth. The result saw the club climb out of the Premier League's relegation zone.
