ALAN Pardew’s hailed Wilfried Zaha as a “phenomenal” player – but refused to reveal whether he is a loan target.
The Manchester United winger is available for loan next month after failing to break into David Moyes’s side.
And Newcastle have been heavily linked with a move for the 21-year-old, signed from Crystal Palace in January.
United manager Pardew was asked about speculation linking the club with Zaha ahead of Saturday’s Premier League game against his former team Palace at Selhurst Park.
“He’s a Manchester United player as far as I’m concerned,” said Pardew.
“He’s a player I know well. He played for my old team.
“He was absolutely phenomenal when they got promoted.
“He got a big move to Manchester United.
“Unfortunately, his career has stalled, but I know he’s done very well there in the background.”
Newcastle were interested in signing Zaha before he joined Man United in a £15m deal.
Asked about the United’s transfer-window strategy, Pardew added: “I said last week that we’ll be strategic.
“If an opportunity arises, we’ll grasp it. If not, we won’t.
“The squad is stronger than it was two years ago in terms of depth.”
