ROLANDO Aarons worked through the summer to get himself in shape for the new season – and the winger’s hard work is paying off for club AND country.
Aarons forced his way into Alan Pardew’s first-team plans after impressing in pre-season.
The 18-year-old opened his account in the 3-3 home draw against Crystal Palace, and Aarons netted on his debut for England’s Under-20s in their 6-0 win over Romania last week.
“This summer I really worked hard – I didn’t go on holiday,” said Aarons.
“I stayed where I was and did a lot of work with a conditioning coach. It’s really helped me so far this season.
“I feel so much stronger and fitter – and it’s obviously paying off now.”
Aarons is now preparing for Saturday’s game against Southampton at the St Mary’s Stadium.
“Now I am looking forward to going back to my club, trying my best to make the squad next week and hopefully impact the game like I did last weekend,” he added.
