SHOLA Ameobi has a big part to play for Newcastle United this season, according to Alan Pardew.
Ameobi marked his comeback from injury with a stunning equaliser in Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur.
It was the long-serving striker’s first of a campaign which promises much for Newcastle, who go into Saturday’s home game against Wigan Athletic lying fourth in the Premier League.
Ameobi still has his critics, but United’s manager isn’t one of them, having handed him a contract extension earlier this season.
And Pardew’s confident there’ll be more goals from the 30-year-old over the coming weeks and months.
“He’s never split my opinion,” Pardew told SportMail.
“Ever since the day I arrived here I’ve thought ‘this is a very, very good player on my hands’.
“He deserves a better reputation - he’ll play more games, and he’ll score more goals.
“That’s what he’s done for me, and long may that continue.”
