Sylvain Marveaux is facing up to six weeks on the sidelines at Newcastle United.

The midfielder – who spent last season on loan at French club Guingamp after being frozen out by then-manager Alan Pardew– has had a hernia operation.

Marveaux reported back to the club looking to play his way into new head coach Steve McClaren’s plans.

But McClaren has revealed that the 29-year-old will be out for “four to six weeks”.
