ENGLAND star Andros Townsend proved too good for Newcastle United’s Under-21s – as he continued his comeback from injury.
The Tottenham winger marked his return from a hamstring injury with a goal the second string’s 4-1 win over Newcastle yesterday.
The 22-year-old has been sidelined since before Christmas, but made an impressive impact in a match which had been postponed from Monday evening because of a waterlogged pitch.
Townsend set up the opening goal for Souleymane Coulibaly on 19 minutes, then added a second himself shortly afterwards when cutting inside from the left, and also had a hand in Spurs’ third goal for Kenny McEvoy.
A rampant Spurs were 4-0 up by the 27th minute as Harry Kane scored, though Newcastle improved when Remie Streete was switched to full-back to combat winger Townsend.
Midfielder Michael Richardson marked his return to the United side by shooting home on 37 minutes following a corner, and with Townsend replaced at half-time, there was no further addition to the scoring.
