VURNON Anita’s desperate to return from injury against Everton tonight - and help Newcastle United up the Premier League table.
The midfielder sat out the weekend’s 7-3 defeat to Arsenal.
And Anita’s ability on the ball was missed at the Emirates Stadium as Newcastle lost possession time and again in a fraught last 20 minutes.
The 23-year-old missed the game after suffering an ankle injury in the 4-3 Boxing Day defeat to Manchester United under a crude challenge from Antonio Valencia.
“These are tough games,” Anita said. “But we must give it a good try, and do our best.
“We must stick together and try to win games.”
Anita is no stranger to adversity, having helped Ajax come from behind in the Eredivisie last season to win the Dutch title.
The Holland international added: “That’s why we must keep on having faith in ourselves - we must start winning games.”
Anita - who could be asked to play at right-bac in the absence of the injured Danny Simpson - has steadily got to grips with the Premier League since his move to Tyneside last summer.
However, the physical demands of the hectic festive period has thrown up another challenge for Anita, who is used to a winter break.
“We have a break in Holland, so it’s new to me,” he said. “Normally in Holland, the players have 10 days off.
“Now my body’s getting used to this, but I enjoy playing games, so it’s good. Physically, I feel good - it’s not a problem.”
