DEFENDER Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa is glad to have left Newcastle United – as he believes he joined a club which plays “real” football when he signed for Roma on loan.
A frustrating 18 months on Tyneside for the Frenchman came to an end in the summer when he joined the Italian side on a season-long loan.
Yanga-Mbiwa believes he is now getting back to his best form, having “lost himself” at Newcastle.
He told Corriere dello Sport: “I had lost myself at Newcastle. Maybe it was too cloudy! It wasn’t easy.
“Now I have found a bit of match fitness and a team that plays real football.
“I need to be a little wary after the injury, but I’m slowly getting back to my best.”
