Mags not worried about West Brom

JOSE Enrique says promotion-chasing Newcastle United aren't worried about free-scoring rivals West Bromwich Albion – only themselves.

Newcastle returned to the top of the Championship thanks to a hard-fought 1-0 win at Preston North End on Monday night.

The result took them two points clear of Roberto Di Matteo's West Brom, the division's top scorers, who had themselves taken apart Bristol City on Saturday.

Saturday's home game against Swansea City is followed by another St James's Park fixture –Watford are on Tyneside a week later – and Enrique senses an opportunity for United to build a cushion at the summit of the league.

While Newcastle weren't at their best at a sodden Deepdale, Enrique wasn't too concerned, with results clearly more important than performances as they attempt to get out of English football's second tier.

"The most important thing was that we won, because Leicester and West Brom won their games at the weekend," Enrique said.

"We won, and we're top of the table, which is a good feeling for the players, but we have many games to go.

"We're not worried about West Brom – we only worry about ourselves. The problem is us, not the other teams. If we win our games, we stay top of the table, and we have to think like that.

"We're at the top of the league, and now we have two games at home against Swansea and Watford. It's very important for us to win these two games and stay where we are.

"It's a real opportunity. The games at home are very important, and if we play the same in the next two games, then I think we can win."
