Newcastle boss Alan Pardew distances himself from England job – and backs Harry Redknapp for post
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew is committed to the club.
FEW managers would say no if their country came calling.
And the England job is arguably the highest-profile – and toughest – job in international football.
Yet for the moment, managing Newcastle United – and ending a trophy drought which spans more than four decades – is the summit of Alan Pardew’s ambitions in the game.
Flattering as it may be to be linked with the “impossible job”, Pardew was quick to distance himself from the vacant post in the wake of Fabio Capello’s resignation.
And he has backed Harry Redknapp, the man who will be stood a few feet away from him in the home dugout at White Hart Lane tomorrow, to succeed the unloved Capello.
Read more about Pardew’s pledge, plus all the build-up to Newcastle’s massive game against Spurs this weekend, in today and tomorrow’s Sportmail.
