Newcastle United’s James Perch sounds out a warning to Tottenham Hotspur

JAMES Perch has warned Tottenham Hotspur that reputations will count for nothing tomorrow.

Perch is hoping to keep his place for Newcastle United’s visit to White Hart Lane, kick-off at 5.15pm tomorrow.

The utility player faced Aaron Lennon in the fixture last season after Jose Enrique failed a late fitness test.

Tottenham won 2-0 that afternoon, with Lennon and Gareth Bale scoring the goals against a United side in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

However, the Newcastle team that will take on Harry Redknapp’s side is very different from that which faced them in December 2010 in what turned out to be Andy Carroll’s last game for the club.

United are fifth in the league, and looking to stay there ahead of an enforced two-week break because of their FA Cup exit.

And Perch, who could again play a defensive midfield role in the absence of Yohan Cabaye and Cheik Tiote, is adamant he and his team-mates won’t pay them too much respect.

Instead, the aim is to “ruffle a few feathers” in a game which Pardew has admitted has almost become a sideshow to the debate around the Redknapp and the vacant England post.

“They’re a great team and they’ve got great players,” Perch told SportMail.“It’s a great challenge, but we won’t go down there thinking ‘we’re going to play against Gareth Bale.’ We won’t be in awe of them.”
