PAPISS Demba Cisse says Newcastle United’s fans gave him a licence to thrill.
The club’s new No9 marked his debut with a stunning goal in yesterday’s 2-1 win over Aston Villa.
Cisse, back from the African Cup of Nations, was named on the bench by manager Alan Pardew, but he was on the pitch in the 14th minute after Leon Best suffered a knee injury.
“I’m happy with my first goal, but I have a lot of thank-yous to give out,” Cisse told SportMail.
“Firstly, to the club for signing me, my team-mates for supporting me since I came here, and to all of the supporters who made it so memorable.
“On my first day, when I signed for the club, to score in my first game was one of my aims. To score on my debut is fantastic. I thank God for that. I’m just happy that it came on my debut.”
