Perch would have been mad to leave Newcastle Utd

JAMES Perch says he would have been “mad” to leave Newcastle United in the transfer window.
Perch was wanted on loan by an unnamed club late last month.
But manager Alan Pardew rebuffed the inquiry – and Perch was only too happy to stay on Tyneside.
With injury and suspension-hit Pardew short on cover in defence and midfield, Perch could have a significant role to play between now and the end of the season.
While understandably keen to play more games, having been a fringe player since his move from Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2010, the 26-year-old’s is happy at Newcastle, who take on Aston Villa at home on Sunday.
Perch came off the bench in Wednesday night’s 2-0 win over Blackburn Rovers, and earned praise from Pardew for shoring up his team, which had taken a first-half battering at Ewood Park.
The result lifted United into fifth place in the Premier League, and Perch – like team-mate Leon Best, who was wanted by Celtic – insists he would have never chosen to leave in the transfer window, on loan or a permanent deal.
“I don’t know why you would want to leave here,” Perch said.
“You’d be mad to leave a team that looks like it’s really going somewhere with the best fans in the country behind you.
“Why would you want to go somewhere on loan, whether it was true or not?
“We saw it with Besty not wanting to go to Celtic and I don’t see why he would.
“He’s playing at Newcastle in a good team. It’s exciting times at the moment here.”
